Technical Details, Locos and stock

Standards

00 scale/gauge using Code 100 rail (Code 75 preferred but wanted to be able to run some old and treasured coarse scale models)

Track

Peco Code 100 flexitrack and points. Minimum radius of points 36" straight, 30" on curved turnouts on "visible" part of layout, 24" radius points in "hidden sidings" - live frog used throughout except where not available (double slips). Minimum curves on plain track 30" (usually much larger) but down to 19" in hidden sidings. Points driven by a mix of Peco point motors, some with switches fitted and Seep with built in switches.

Couplings

A mix of Hornby and Bachman. Slowly standardising on the less obtrusive Bachman. Looking into even more scale alternatives such as Alex Jackson/B&B but potential buffer locking on smaller radius curves is a matter of concern.

Electrics

Wired utilising common return. Control Panel with track diagram using "electric pencil" to operate points. Each section controlled by a DPDT slide switch within the track diagram which can switch the section between one of two controllers. Bays and goods yard can be controlled by a separate hand-held controller. Controllers are Panel mounted Gaugemaster with separate inertia controls (which are seldom used). All utilise Gaugemaster HF track cleaners which have been found to be excellent.

Stock

I won't detail this at present. It consists of a miscellany of BR Mk 1 and Bulleid coaches in SR green and a number of GWR clerestories together with a few odds and ends. An "enthusiasts special" is occasionally run behind the Princess comprising of eastern Region blood and custard Mk 1s with a Pullman dining car and a blood & custard LNER ex-teak brake second. Goods stock is even more random. As the layout progresses I hope to extend and rationalise the rolling stock considerably.
