SWING 2009

The Charities we supported.

When the idea of staging SWING came about it was decided that the show would have a charitable element aimed at supporting a local charity and a railway heritage charity. To this end the show contributed to the Bognor community of L'arche and to the Save Our Signal box appeal.

L'arche is a family of 130 communities in 30 countries where people with learning disabilities live and work equally alongside their assistants. People with and without learning disabilities have the same values and dignity. In Bognor there are 3 shared houses together with a workshop for candlemaking, cards, carpets, cookery and computing. For further info see www.larche.org.uk.

Save Our Signal box appeal was launched in 2008 with the aim of saving and preserving the Barnham signal box. The traditional wooden box dates back to 1911 and is to be replaced by a new control centre. The appeal is looking to pay for the box to be dismantled and be relocated to the grounds of the Aldingbourne Community Sports  Centre at Westergate. There it is intended to form a complex of buildings for the Bognor Regis Model Railway Club and to be used as an educational facility of local school children. By the time of SWING the fate of the box maybe known  as a decision is due in mid March.
